FFA’s final meeting of the semester

Welcome back to campus. We hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable Thanksgiving break. As we head into the end of the semester, below are some updates to share with you.

General Body Meeting: To share our successes of the semester and our plans for the next, please join our last general body meeting this THURSDAY 11/30/23 at 6:00! The location is Chancellors 157!

Holiday Donation Drives: We have partnered with various organizations around campus and Williamsburg to stock our locations. Please consider donating and participating in this effort. We’d like to thank CKI, the W&M Bookstore, the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, and Student Accessibility Services. The W&M bookstore drive is 12/8 from 5pm-7pm at the bookstore.

The Hunger Free Campus Grant Program: This is a bill that is garnering support to be passed through the Virginia General Assembly that seeks to grant universities funding for their food pantries. Please fill out this petition to help us make structural changes amongst pantries across Virginia:

We are revitalizing our “Food Rescue Volunteers” GroupMe as there have been more requests for on-campus food rescues this semester. It is exciting and we will be sharing these opportunities primarily through this chat.

As we expand our food rescue program, we are looking for student volunteers (with cars) to help us with local pickups on Mondays and Thursdays!

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions! See everyone on Thursday.

FFA members, also interested in Rotaract?

Thank you to everyone who attended our meeting tonight. We are very excited to see so many students are ready to support our mission on campus.

I wanted to share another opportunity with you, especially if you are interested in both local and international service work with a professional mentorship. This group is called Rotaract, and you may be familiar with Interact or Rotary.

To better explain what Rotaract is accomplishing this semester, we are hosting our first interest meeting THURSDAY 2/2/23 at 7:00!Location is Blow Hall 322.

Highlights for this semester are as follows: Collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Istanbul, Turkey, Spring Retreat for District 7600, a workshop about the power Rotary International by Internationally-recognized Rotarian Walter Hughes, the launch of a PR campaign for the Grove Community in Williamsburg, and volunteering with W&M Lafayette Kids and/or the Grove Outreach Center. Rotary offers scholarships, networking, international exchanges, and the opportunity to continue as a Rotarian through your adult years.

Meeting this Wednesday with Dr. Sasi!

Hello FFA!

We hope your Monday is off to a great start. Some announcements for the group:

  1. We have an exciting general body meeting planned for this week. Our guest speaker is Dr. Sasi, who is an adjunct lecturer of Asian and Middle Eastern studies. While not teaching, Dr. Sasi runs his own farm local to campus. He is the Executive President of Harvest Earth, a non-profit focused on facial justice, food justice, and climate justice. He also runs his own farm and is a popular vendor in CW’s Saturday farmers market.

You can read more about him here:

Our meeting time is 6:30 in Boswell Hall #342, this is the same room we met the first time.

  1. Our club has applied for both SA funding and a national grant that would allow us to begin working on plans to expand our reach with FFA by moving the Campus Food Exchange to an old kitchen in One Tribe Place.
  2. Recently, the Williamsburg Merchants Association and the W&M Law school both had successful food drives to help us restock!
  3. Please volunteer for the Campus Food Exchange!

That’s all for now. See everyone on Wednesday!
