Hello Food For All,
I hope you had a great 5-day weekend! This week, we are running a toiletries drive with the Office of Sustainability, and we have several big upcoming events and exciting internship opportunities to share!
Toiletries Drive: We are partnering with the Office of Sustainability to run a toiletries drive from now until March 6th! Keep an eye out for donation boxes in Sadler, ISC, Swem, and the Business School.
General Body Meeting: Tomorrow, February 25th at 7:00pm, instead of doing our usual general body meeting, we will be meeting at Wesley (526 Jamestown Rd) to join Wesley and Students For Rare for their RARI-Tea event! It will be a night of zine making, complete with tea, cookies, and a presentation highlighting Motor Neuron Disease Awareness Day!
Food Pantry Staples Dinner: Want to enjoy a free dinner made with ingredients you can find in the Food Exchange or a food pantry? For our general body meeting on March 4th, we’ll be meeting at the Wesley House at 7:00pm to eat a variety of delicious dishes together! If you plan to attend, please RSVP here.
Spring Break Staycation: Wesley and Food For All are teaming up to provide food, service opportunities, and fun activities to folks staying over Spring Break! If you are interested, fill out this form so that we can get a vague estimate of numbers. You can come to as much or as little as you would like. Additionally, reply to this email or send a GroupMe DM to an exec member if you want to get involved in coordinating/running the event!
Internship Opportunities: Two internship opportunities through Civic and Community Engagement addressing food access in our community have come to our attention!
- Grove Christian Outreach Center: Food Access and Inclusion Intern (In-Person, 400 hours)Support Grove Christian Outreach Center in their efforts to enhance the impact of their services for the community, with focus on improving accessibility and inclusion for individuals using their facilities. You will translate important information into multiple languages, create inclusive documents and signage, develop visual aids for navigation, and create marketing strategies to increase our outreach and grant potential. This is a great opportunity to gain nonprofit and grant experience while strengthening your project management, communication, and inclusion skills. Apply by March 10th using this link.
- Williamsburg Community Growers: Website Development Intern (Remote, 200 Hours)Support Williamsburg Community Growers by improving and updating their website, with special attention to their Community Supported Agriculture page. As you update and redesign the existing website you will also develop how-to instructions for future WCG volunteers (there is only a staff of one!) to keep the website up to date and utilize templates for graphics and photos. This is a great opportunity to practice and strengthen your digital literacy, technology, and project management skills in support of a local sustainability organization. Apply by March 10th using this link.
Have questions or suggestions? Feel free to reply to this email! We hope to see you at our general body meeting this week or at our food staples dinner next week!
