Hey Food For All!

I hope everyone had a great break! We have lots of exciting announcements this week so make sure to add these events to your calendar!

• Our general body meeting will be tonight, 10/14 at 7pm in Tucker 222. Exec will be doing a short presentation on food accessibility advocacy efforts both on and off campus. We will also be talking about our upcoming food drives and other events, so stop by if you have any questions or want to get involved!
•  Food For All will be tabling at the Basic Needs Fair on 10/30 from 11-1 in the Sadler Atrium! We will be joining other campus offices and student organizations dedicated to meeting financial, food, medical, housing, and transportation needs to provide information about the resources that are available to students on and off campus. This is a great opportunity whether you are hoping to learn about resources for yourself or a friend or are hoping to get involved with supporting our campus community. We will also be collecting donations for our Campus Pantries, so feel free to bring a donation or just stop by to say hi! All students that donate will get a free T shirt 🙂
• If you are in another club on campus that is interested in getting involved and potentially winning $500, the Basic Needs Coalition will be sponsoring a Food Drive Club Challenge to benefit our Campus Pantries! The first prize will be awarded to the RSO that donates the largest quantity of goods. Any RSO that donates 25 items or more will be entered into a raffle to win the second prize. Both prizes will consist of $500 towards a campus event for your organization. Events must be open to all students. Donations should be dropped off at the basic needs fair on 10/30 11-1 in the Sadler Atrium or at the Sadler information desk between 9-4 on 10/30. Donations should be labeled with the name of your organization and an email contact.
  • When sending out information about this competition to clubs or club members, we ask that you also include a reminder that the campus food pantry is an anonymous resource available to all W&M students, faculty, and staff facing any level of food insecurity without proof of need. Check out our programs for further information.
  • We will need plenty of volunteers on 10/30 from 4-6 to organize donations! Givepulse sign up links will be sent soon. We will not have a gen bod meeting 10/28 and instead encourage members to volunteer on Thursday!
• Lastly, the All Assemblies Food Drive will be running from 10/21-11/11! Lookout for yellow boxes located across campus to make a donation, and make sure to tell your friends!
  • The kickoff event will be on 10/21 at 12:00 in the Swem lobby (directly on your left when you enter the front doors). Stop by to take a picture and celebrate the start of the drive!
  • We will have another large volunteer opportunity in the afternoon on 11/11, instead of our general body meeting that week. Exact times and a givepulse link will be sent soon!

I hope you all have had a great first week back and are excited to get involved with our upcoming events! The first Food For All meeting will be on Tuesday, 9/2 at 7pm, and will include a volunteer training/tour of our Wesley pantry and an introduction to the club followed by s’mores! We will meet at the Wesley House, at 526 Jamestown Rd (right across the street from Lemon Hall). Volunteers will be required to attend a training session before signing up for a shift, so make sure to attend if you are able! Future trainings will also be offered in the upcoming weeks based on demand. We hope to see you there!

If you are new to William and Mary or just new to FFA, this is a great time to learn more about what we do! For those that don’t know, Food For All is a club dedicated to improving food access on campus through the operation of two food pantries, located at the Wesley House and Sadler room 127. These pantries are entirely student run by FFA, and are open to students, faculty, and staff facing food insecurity. As a club, we volunteer, hold food drives, provide education and awareness surrounding food insecurity, and participate in advocacy work on campus and beyond. 

How to get involved:

• General Body Meetings! These will be held every Tuesday from 7-8 in Tucker 222 (except for our first meeting at Wesley) and will include education, service projects, advocacy efforts, and social events. 
• Volunteer! Wesley and Sadler volunteer shifts will be posted on Givepulse following our first training session. Make sure to attend a training to be able to sign up! Volunteer hours will be verified on givepulse and count towards most volunteer requirements if needed.
  • Wesley pantry and volunteer hours will be Tuesdays and Fridays 11-1 and Thursdays 4:30-6:30. If you are interested in getting involved outside of these times, please let us know!
• Donate! FFA hosts food drives every semester to benefit the pantries, so look out for upcoming details on how to donate.  
• Tell your friends! The campus pantry is completely anonymous and open to anyone in the William and Mary community who is facing food insecurity at any capacity. Please do not hesitate to use this resource should you or anyone you know need it. There is no proof of need required. Additional resources to address food insecurity can be found below.

For those who still have finals left, best of luck with your remaining exams/papers/projects! For those who are all done, I hope that the start of your summer/graduation week is going well! I wanted to send one last email to broadcast a couple of announcements and to wish you a final farewell as the outgoing co-president. 

End-of-Semester Food Drive: Have dining dollars you still need to spend before they expire on Wednesday? We are partnering with W&M Dining for an end-of-semester food drive! You can purchase nonperishable food and toiletries at Student Exchange and Tribe Market and drop them in the donation boxes at those locations. If you have unopened food items or toiletries that you would like to donate directly, you can drop them off at the Wesley House (526 Jamestown Rd) in a bag labeled for the Food Exchange.

Community Garden: We need folks to help tend our community garden over the summer! If you are interested in watering the plants and harvesting the produce, you can sign up here. For more information, contact Emma Kaufman-Horner.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for your contributions to Food For All, no matter what your level of involvement has been. It’s been a joy to watch Food For All grow from a seedling of a new club to a flourishing, vibrant community of passionate students. I’ve been honored to serve as your co-president this semester and as a member of exec for the past three years. I’m thrilled that Food For All will be in the hands of such an experienced and earnest exec team next year. Here’s to another year of increasing food access and fighting food insecurity!

Happy Monday, and happy last week of classes! We are holding elections tomorrow, and we have several other announcements about initiatives you should keep an eye out for!

Elections: Come help us elect our next exec board (or run for a position yourself!) tomorrow at 7:00pm in Chancellors 123. Details about procedures, how to run, and the Zoom link can be found in our email sent this past Thursday.

Fundraiser: We will be partnering with AASI for a fundraiser selling ice pops! Keep an eye on our GroupMe and Instagram for more details!

End-of-Semester Food Drive: Have extra dining dollars? We will be hosting a food drive as the semester winds down with Dining in the convenience stores (Tribe Market and Sadler Exchange). Keep an eye out for collection boxes in these locations!

Staff Assembly Food Drive Wrap-Up: Thank you to everyone who volunteered with us last Monday and Tuesday! We were able to collect and put away over 1,000 pounds of food!

Happy Monday! We have two service events this week, plus we will be tabling at Earth Day Bash. Read on to learn more!

Staff Assembly Food Drive Service Events: Today, April 21st at 3:00pm, staff members are dropping off donated food at Wesley (526 Jamestown Rd). Tomorrow, April 22nd at 7:00pm, we will be meeting at Wesley to organize this food. We would love some extra hands! You can find more details on our GivePulse. Even if registration is closed, feel free to stop by and pitch in!

Earth Day Bash Tabling: We will be tabling at the Earth Day Bash on Friday, April 25^th from 1pm-4pm on the Crim Dell Meadow. Stop by to participate in a fun community craft and check out the other organizations tabling!

If you are interested in running for an exec position, please reach out to Annamarie (agwarnke@wm.edu) and Bennett (bssnyder@wm.edu) to learn more about the responsibilities of each position. Happy Monday! We have a couple fun Pride events this week and a couple service events next week to wrap up the Staff Assembly food drive, so we hope that you find an upcoming event to energize you as we enter the last three weeks of classes!

Pride & Food Justice Event: Tomorrow, April 15th at 7:00pm in Chancellors 123, we will be celebrating W&M’s Pride Month with an ice cream social and zine night! The zines will focus on the intersection of food insecurity and the LGBTQ+ community, which Bennett will lead a short informational session on at the beginning of the meeting.

Pride Tabling: We will be tabling at Pride Fest on Friday, April 18^th from 2pm-7pm on the Sunken Garden! Stop by to do a colorful, food-related craft with us and check out the other organizations tabling. 

Staff Assembly Food Drive Service Events: This is the last week of the Staff Assembly food drive! If you would like to contribute, they have put many yellow collection boxes across campus. Next week, we will have two service events: a food drop-off event on Monday, April 21st at 3:00pm, and a food organization event on Tuesday, April 22nd at 7:00pm.
